I hear this complaint at many of the companies I visit. What causes the very people the IT Department is serving to hate them so much?

Most users don't hate the IT department, they are just frustrated with not having anyone pay attention to their requirements. Many IT people are not so hot at communicating what they are really doing and internal misunderstandings begin to form. Many times this issue is fed by poor prioritization and poor communication.

The real reason is that users prefer to have more control over their systems today, without any strategic considerations.

They know what they want today...................... tomorrow...who cares.

IT people can be nice and friendly. Bad results can be the result of bad planning with an arrogant attitude towards support staff, not listening to them and discounting their needs. They also may not let the staff know when they will be out of the office, causing the whole office to shut down for several hours at a stretch without technical assistance.
