Hello Marie,

Yes, CIO is a position in IT. "Chief Information Officer" is a position that is focused on the strategic implementation and management of two types of Information:

Vertical Information: The information that is heavily aligned with the vertical market of the enterprise and helps to keep the enterprise "competitive"

Horizontal/Operational Information: The information that every enterprise is required to worry about, regardless of their vertical market but which is necessary to stay "operational".

CIO differs from CTO in that the CTO is focused on the strategy and implementation of the Technologies that are outlined by the CEO/CIO/COO, etc.

I hope this helps.

Regards,
